Fundraising Details

Lorna Hamilton is one of Barrhead's most talented citizens. She is an accomplished artist, a gifted actress, and active promoter of culture, entertainment and the arts in our local area, as well as an avid community booster. Barrhead Public Library is delighted to offer a commissioned painting, by Lorna, on a subject of your choosing, in your choice of medium, upon consultation with her.

Lorna prefers to work with mixed media, water colors and acrylics. Her subject matter is most often landscapes, abstract paintings, flowers or still life. She prefers not to do portraits or pets, as that is an area she is still developing. As the winner of our draw, you will be able to choose the subject and medium you prefer. The painting, approximately 28in. X 36in., will be framed, autographed, and presented to you during a celebration of wine and cheese at The Barrhead Art Club Gallery.

Only 299 tickets are available for the draw. You can order them on-line from Barrhead Public Library, at a cost of $10.00/ticket, or at 3 for $25.00. You can also obtain them from library staff, Library Board members, or Friends of the Library. We are valuing Lorna's painting $1,000, but it is, of course, priceless to you! Tickets are on sale now, with the draw taking place November 25, 2020. Stop by the library to see some of Lorna's paintings. Be sure to get your tickets early, as this promises to be one of our most popular fund raisers. Purchase online by filling out this form below!

About Lorna Hamilton

Lorna grew up in Barrhead, attending Barrhead Composite High School. Upon graduating she enrolled in a Fine Arts program at the University of Alberta. After completing her first year there, she returned to Barrhead, lured by the offer of a position in her family's dental clinic, working alongside her father and brother. What was to be a short term position became a 40 year career.

Lorna has appeared in numerous Barrhead Community Theatre productions, as well as preforming with The City of Edmonton's Da Camera Singers, and the Barrhead Madrigal Singers. She has been a leading member of The Barrhead Art Club, and taken many advanced classes designed to enhance her painting creativity. Lorna has been the recipient of several awards and scholarships through the Alberta Wide Art Show, as she continues to study the use of new materials and techniques. Lorna enjoys adding to her art knowledge, developing her talent, and acting as a mentor to countless local artists.

Many of Lorna's painting currently decorate the walls of town businesses, and her friends have been proud to receive her pieces. Several have been sold to collectors throughout the province.

Lorna has been an Artist of the Month at Barrhead Public Library, and she draws her main inspiration from nature, the trees and wildlife that surround her residence at Thunder Lake.

Here's how Lorna describes herself. "All my life I have been interested in Art and Music. Over the years I have studied many techniques and mediums - always interested in many different surfaces, adding dimension to the surface, such as unexpected little pieces of paper that have a surprise aspect, and providing a visual kaleidoscope".
